If you are planning to rent a camper or motorhome, you will surely be wondering: Should you rent from a professional company or from an individual? Even with the emergence of private rental portals, there are a set of features and advantages that we believe companies can offer with respect to vehicles rented to individuals.

In this entry, we are going to explore these advantages in depth, focusing especially on the points that we think are most key, which are assistance, advice, support and quality guarantees. Let us begin!

Comprehensive Assistance

By choosing a professional company, you get a more professional level of assistance in case you have any type of incident, problem or breakdown. Most companies provide 24/7 support, which means that no matter where you are or what time you need help, you will have someone at your disposal who will know how to help you in whatever situation you find yourself in.

Even with private rental portals that can offer a degree of assistance, the level and availability of this can vary and are unlikely to match the responsiveness of a specialist company, who will provide you with a more personalized service and They will be aware of any problems that may have arisen with your vehicle as they will be used to dealing with them.

Support and Advice: A Personalized Journey

Camper rental companies will have greater capacity to offer a personalized service. Their team of experts will be able to advise you, guiding you through each step of the rental process and helping you choose the vehicle that best suits your needs. They can even help you with choosing the destination and giving you advice for your trip.

This type of support can be particularly valuable if you are renting a camper for the first time or if you have specific needs for your trip. On the other hand, individual portals may lack this level of personalization and expert advice.

Vehicle Quality Guarantee

Professional companies ensure that every vehicle in their fleet is kept in perfect condition. In fact, it is normal for rental companies' vehicles to be renewed every 2-3 years in order to always be able to offer the latest vehicles on the market in the best conditions.

In addition, regular and rigorous inspections and maintenance are carried out to ensure that everything works correctly before your trip. Although individual portals offer certain guarantees, it can be more difficult to verify the maintenance history and overall quality of a vehicle.

It must be taken into account that there are certain breakdowns and unforeseen events that may happen to you whenever you rent the vehicle from an individual or a professional.

Security and Transparency

Renting from a professional company means that you will have a detailed contract that clearly specifies all the conditions of the rental. This level of transparency provides additional security and helps avoid misunderstandings or surprises. Although private rental portals may also offer contracts, these may vary from owner to owner and may not be as comprehensive as those provided by companies.

In fact, it may be that the owner who is giving you the vehicle is not aware of many of the clauses imposed by the platform and that the person who rents the vehicle ends up signing. So be very careful with this to avoid misunderstandings in case there is any type of incident.

Prices

We often think that renting from an individual is cheaper than renting from a professional company. But nothing could be further from the truth, today the price is very much the same, it even depends on which vehicles the price is higher on the individual rental portals than in the companies themselves, since at the price set by the individuals who want to receive per night you have to add the commission that these portals take, which makes the price end up being the same

The vehicles that are rented for cheaper prices on these platforms are usually older vehicles and in worse condition, which will mean that there is a greater risk of suffering unforeseen events due to the condition of the vehicle than in new vehicles such as those in company fleets. for rent.

In summary, although private rental portals have expanded the options available to camper and motorhome travelers, professional companies believe that they continue to offer a unique set of advantages that should be taken into account so as not to put the trip at risk.

So, before embarking on your next adventure, remember these points and enjoy the trip!

TIPS AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A ROADTRIP WITH CHILDREN

Plan stops and activities

As a couple you can completely improvise and let yourself go along the way... With children it is more difficult to leave room for improvisation. Think about finding activities along your route that may interest them and consider whether any of them will need to be booked in advance. There are a multitude of options: theme parks, places to visit, nature excursions, beaches... it is best to do a little of everything to make the trip as exciting as possible.

Plan the points where you are going to stay overnight

Continuing with what we mentioned in the previous point, it is difficult to imagine driving for long periods of time to find the ideal place to spend the night with small children in the back waiting to arrive and tired of the road. Avoid this waste of time by having previously researched the places where you can sleep freely or the parking lots and campsites where you can spend the night.Use applications such as Park4Night, Furgoperfectos and Google Maps to find the best places.

Think about games and entertainment

We have already said it before: vacations in a camper van or motorhome are an opportunity to spend time together as a family and get closer. Think that you will have a lot of time during the trip to be together, talk, play and have fun. Bringing board games, cards and paintings are always a great idea on this type of trip!

As for security....

Remember! While driving it is important that children are seated correctly and not lying on the seats or in bed. The legislation remains the same as in the car: children must be secured and installed in booster seats or baby seats adapted to their size and weight.

Drive rested and take the time to admire the landscape: you're on vacation! If you cannot reach your destination on time, the camper offers the wonderful advantage of being able to sleep between two planned sites and stop wherever you want.

The essential children's essentials so you don't forget on your trip

We leave you a list of our recommendations for when you take a road trip with children to make it as fun and entertaining as possible:

Believing that you have to go very far to see incredible places

In the end, traveling in a camper you realize how few things you really need and it is much more comfortable to have space to store all the things you need more than to not carry everything overflowing.

If we like something about road trips, it is the freedom and being able to change plans as we go and as we want. Even so, we believe that it is essential to have certain things minimally planned or controlled to avoid surprises: such as having marked points of interest that we would like to visit and the most optimal route to visit them, places to spend the night. near these points as well as water filling and emptying points, to avoid running out of water or being unable to shower or use the bathroom.

In those places where they do want us, we will quickly find informative signs about the areas authorized for overnight stays as well as other additional services such as places where we can fill and empty water.

  • Furgoperfectos

Things that cannot be done when you park a camper vehicle

Below we leave you a reminder with some of the things you CANNOT do when you park your camper vehicle since it would be considered camping, which is prohibited throughout Spanish territory except in areas specifically enabled for it:

  • Exceed the perimeter of the vehicle. That is, extend awnings, trailers, tents, swing windows or any element that exceeds the perimeter of our vehicle. The activity we are carrying out inside our van cannot transcend to the outside.
  • Place tables and chairs outside the vehicle.
  • Pour liquids or empty tanks, nor clean, gray or black water. We will find places specifically set up for this.
  • Put stabilizing legs or chocks.
  • Emitting excessive noises. It is common sense that we must have civil behavior wherever we go.

Although it may seem that there are many restrictions and that the options are limited when it comes to finding a place where we can sleep peacefully with our camper or motorhome, we assure you that you will find many incredible places where to spend the night without any kind of problem.

In the end, it all comes down to the fact that you canpark your camper vehicle in the same place you would park your car, as long as there is no sign or prohibition explicitly preventing you from doing so.

Who can drive a camper?

One of the most frequent doubts that people usually have is what requirements must be met to be able to drive a camper.

Well, to be able to drive a camper it is as simple as having a car driving license, although it is true that you have to consult the specific conditions of each company since in most cases They will require you to be over 25 years oldand have a minimum of 2 years' experience on your license.

Budget and prices to rent a camper

We believe this is the most important point when starting to plan a camper trip since based on the budget you establish you will be able to access one or another type of vehicle .

You have to be very clear that in the current market there are infinity of rental camper vehicles: from individuals to specialized companies, vehicles of all types, sizes and equipment that you can imagine.

Keep in mind that the price will also vary depending on the time of year in which you want to make the trip: it is not the same to rent a camper van in summer, when it is season high and the demand is much greater than in other months of the year where the same vehicle will have a much more affordable price.

Before starting to look for one type of camper vehicle or another, it is important that you are clear which one It is the real budget for renting a camper van that you have to allocate to renting the camper van because based on it you will be able to access one type or another of camper with more or less comforts and accessories.

  • If your budget is between €70-90/day, you can rent a small van with a basic and simple camper layout that, although it may allow you to be independent, will not have everything the comfortthat a larger camper with more equipment could have.
  • If your budget is higher and you can spend between €100-140/day, you can find vehicles with a complete camper van that will allow you to live indoors in the vehicle. with all the comforts so that you really feel at home: indoor kitchen, shower with hot water, living-dining room, fixed bed, bathroom, television...

Equipment, accessories and attention from the company

Nowadays there are many companies and even individuals who have a fleet of camper van rentals.

When you choose the company with which you are going to rent the camper van, find out what is included and what is not included in the rental, since although many times the rate does include basic things such as utensils kitchen or sheets, in many other cases this service is not offered or you have to pay a supplement for it.

At the same time, it is important to take into account what services, attention and conditions the rental company has since the price between one company or another may vary depending on the quality of the service and options they offer you. more than the specific characteristics of the vehicle, since in the end the vehicles are very similar in all of them.

What we value most in a company is:

  • Ease and speed when making a reservation
  • That the vehicles are new and are well cared for
  • Good attention from the company and that they take care of the small details
  • Conditions when picking up and returning the van
  • That includes basic accessories such as kitchen utensils, tableware, cleaning kit, bedding and towels, bicycle rack...
  • That you have various extra equipment options to be able to take the experience to another level: kayak, hammocks, bicycles, camping tables and chairs, WIFI...

Rental conditions

Reading all the rental conditions of the company with which you are going to rent the camper is something essential that you must do since each one has its particular conditions strong> and it seems like a serious mistake to ignore it since this document details absolutely everything about your reservation:

  • Conditions for driving the van
  • Mileage included
  • Deposit
  • Accessories and equipment included
  • Vehicle pick-up and return times and conditions
  • Protocol in case of accident or incidents
  • Insurance coverage
  • Payment and cancellation method and conditions
  • Lessor and Lessee Responsibilities
  • etc.

We strongly encourage you to read the document carefully to avoid problems and misunderstandings and to be clear at all times about the conditions to which you will be subject.

Book in advance

Currently, camper rentals are in high demand, so we recommend that if you are clear that you want to take a trip by van, especially during holidays or high season, reserve in advance to avoid being left without a vehicle or paying a higher price for booking at the last minute.

Travel by camper outside of high season

If you have the opportunity, take advantage of off-season getaways. Many times we are limited to being able to take our vacations in summer or Christmas or on national holidays, but if you can organize yourself to take a getaway even for a weekend out of season, don't think about it!

Traveling in a camper has a place all year round, it allows you to go to both the beach and the mountains and carry everything you need according to the activities you are going to do in every time of the year and the weather.

In addition, traveling out of season has the advantage of being able to enjoy the places you visit in a much quieter way and without crowds of people, which will make your trip feel much more special.

Route planning

Although traveling by camper is synonymous with freedom and improvisation, our best advice is to carry out a minimum of planning.

We recommend that once you know more or less which places you are going to want to visit, look for alternative places to spend the night that are in the area, as well as places where you can fill and empty water. You can always end up improvising and stopping in places that you find and that you had not planned, but on many occasions you will be grateful for having done this prior search.

Make use of one of the many applications que existen que son útiles para la planificación y la duración del viaje en camper, ¡te van a facilitar muchísimo las cosas!

We hope that the article "What should I take into account when renting a camper van" has been of great help to you and that you are already booking your vacation :)

THE FORK
